To mark the 160th anniversary of the Naval Battle of Lissa, the Pula Aquarium invites you to the opening of the exhibition ‘The Naval Battle of Lissa’ at the Gallerion Maritime Collection (Riva 12, Pula) on Thursday, 3 September 2026, at 12:00.

The exhibition features a guest exhibition from the Croatian Maritime Museum Split and the Archaeological Museum in Split, shown in Istria for the first time. The historical exhibits are complemented by valuable objects from the Gallerion collection, as well as a unique 360° video projection that vividly conveys the events surrounding the battle.

The focus is on the Naval Battle of Lissa on 20 July 1866, one of the most significant naval battles of the 19th century. The exhibition highlights the background, course, and aftermath of the engagement, in which the Austrian fleet commanded by Wilhelm von Tegetthoff defeated the Italian fleet. The battle had a lasting impact on the future development of seafaring and, in particular, the maritime history of the Adriatic.

It offers visitors the opportunity to engage not only with the military conflict, but also with its significance for European and Adriatic maritime history.

Following the official opening ceremony, guests are invited to mingle and enjoy refreshments and light snacks in the exhibition space.
