Between 1840 and 1910, nine members of the Spetzler family, originally from Dinkelsbühl in Franconia, served in the Imperial and Royal (k.u.k.) Austro-Hungarian Navy, in civilian maritime shipping, and in the shipyard industry.

Drawing on contemporary historical documents, the book recounts remarkable events and personal experiences from their lives, offering a vivid insight into maritime history and family legacy across the 19th century.

1889/90 Emil Spetzler on the corvette Aurora on an expedition to East Africa and India
